Musical Painting

Finished this one today.

I really liked the way the white popped off the canvas when I did the background, so I just went with it.

I will be showing, and attempting to sell, this one at Stabbed in the Art on February 3rd along with a few more.

Really Rough Sketch, Really Good Message

For this sketch I was thinking about the whole idea of Jesus conquering death on the cross.

It is very rough but I wanted to share it to maybe get you thinking about it as well.

This one will definitely get more attention from me.

A Couple From the Weekend

I did a couple of doodles this weekend.

I did not get the chance to do any painting though.

I am trying more and more to sketch things straight from my brain without using any reference.

I think that is the only way I am going to develop my own style.

Little Sketch of Horrors

Today's sketch was inspired by the movie Little Shop of Horrors.

I am not usually a fan of musical movies, but I think a giant man-eating alien plant is worth watching.

Sketch of the Day

I have set a goal to do at least one decent sketch a day.

I am committed to honing my skills.

This sketch will definitely become a painting.

A Few Rough Sketches

I have been trying to draw something every day.

I know the only way to improve my skills is to practice.

Today I did a few rough sketches of characters from the books I have been reading.

The Hunger Games.

I tried to capture them as I imagined them

as I was reading.

I must admit though that I was swayed a bit on President Snow because I know who will play him in the movie.

First is the main character, Katniss Everdeen.

I plan on refining this one and turning it into a painting.

 Next a character from more towards the end of the series.

If you have not read them yet I won't say who it is.

 Last is President Snow.

I saw that Donald Sutherland was playing him in the movie.

I've never been that great at faces, hopefully the practice will start to pay off.

First Work of the New Year

 Here are the first two paintings of the new year.

First a picture of a guitar player 

inspired by watching Slash on VH1 classics 

late at night.

 Next is a "beach" scene that happened by accident.

I was not planning to go in this direction,

it just kind of happened that way.

I did these in hopes of selling them at the Stabbed in the Art show Friday night, but that is not going to happen this month. 

I guess I'll head on over to Ebay.

Paintings and Prints

I got a chance to do a few paintings over the last month or so.

I could not blog them because three of them were Christmas gifts commissioned for my brother by his wife.

This first one was not for my brother.

it is on16 x 20 canvas.

 The next three were for my brother.

I really like the way they came out.

The first two are on 16 x 20 canvas.

The last one of the drummer is a 24 x 48 canvas.

These were very fun to do.

I will be having some of my paintings

professionally photographed to make prints.

I have mentioned many times that I am not a very good photographer.

Basically I snap pictures with the iPhone and hope for the best.

Hopefully I can find an audience to purchase my art and prints online.

Speaking of that, I will be trying to place some work in a 

local show called Stabbed in the Art in a couple of weeks.

 

Art On Old Pages

I have been seeing people drawing on old book pages 

and I thought I would give it a try.

I found an old dictionary that was falling apart.

This one was inspired by the ukelele player,

and one of my favorite artists, Drew Brophy.

 Thought this was fitting on a page about 

parts of speech

 Something about red hair and blue eyes

just gets me.

 And one for the ladies.

To get upset about.

I've Got A Lot Going On

I do have a lot going on, but I am finding time do do a little art.

Looking at the pictures I am also convinced that I need a real camera.

iPhone camera is just not cutting it.

I got this chest for free and decided to make it a little more little girl friendly.

I tore it apart.

Sanded it down, and...

 Made it girlie for my little girls.

I painted it ivory and watered down some pink paint.

I covered the top with a pink bed sheet.

It is very soft and was fairly cheap. 

The feet are off of an old couch I sent to the burn pile.

 

 I also added my own touch with a tattoo style heart lock.

 Finally, I am trying to create some unique Christmas ornaments to put in a craft fair.

These are painted on log circles.

 And a little airbrushing on some burnt out light bulbs.

Good Conduct or Else

Back to school time.

I tried to think of a way to not only track conduct, 

but also deter unruly hooligan like behavior.

Hopefully this will work.

Craft paper and a sharpie marker help create a pirate style warning.

Here is a look at the whole board.

I really like Old English style lettering.

 If all else fails I might just have to release this wild animal.

 (funny how babies can find fun anywhere)

 

Work in Progress

Working on an old bass body I had stashed away.

I don't have all the parts for this guy,

so its just going to be a wall hanger. 

I'm doing some tattoo style art.

This is what I have so far.

A Different Type of Art

I do love to paint and draw, but there is another art form I am well acquainted with.

That would be the art of

Redneck Engineering

This art has been ingrained in the DNA of the Moore family for as long as I can remember.

It starts with the removal of all safety features and grows from there.

No man on Earth could start my Paw Paw's lawnmower, or tractor, or whatever without a lesson.  

I also believe he could fix anything with a pair of pliers and duct tape.

 This art was passed down to my Dad, and seems to have taken hold of me from a young age as well.

If you are not sure about what that means, here is an example.

Last Thursday I was cutting the grass.

After a bout with a nest of yellowjackets.

(Round 1 went to the bugs.  I did however win the fight with a couple of gallons of gasoline)

The seat of my lawnmower broke off.

Now one would think that this should never happen, especially since I paid so much for this piece of machinery, but it did.

After looking at the price to replace the part I decided to try another option.

You guessed it, Redneck Engineering.

I found this part at Lowes. 

It is made for building with lumber.

My thought is that it is metal and seems strong enough.

 A bend, a cut, and a few holes drilled.

And for $1.86 the seat is attached.

Sure beats $257 for the new bracket.

And people say Rednecks are stupid.

A Few Doodles

I like to sit around and doodle.
I come up with some of my favorite pieces that way.
This first one is sort of a battle between an angel and a demon.
I got the idea from reading Daniel.
I don't really like how the angel looks like a hippie, but this is a sketch and not a finished piece.

You may notice a few extra lines scribbled around this one.
That is from my one year old daughter.
I like to look at scribbles a lot like my kids look at the clouds.
I try to find something interesting in them.

This one actually started as an attempt to draw a donkey.
There is a story in the Bible where a donkey speaks to a guy named Balaam.
Its in the book of Numbers. Check it out.
I started with the top of the mouth, but saw this strange looking guy instead.

Finally, Jonah being swallowed by a very big fish.
This one may actually make it to canvas.
I would love to tackle the waves and stormy sky in full color.

Selling Art to Fund Moore Art

I am trying to sell some art,
so I can afford to do some more.

I have a few bow holders that I created.

All of them are ready to hang and have a long pink ribbon to attach bows.
They have been sitting in my closet for a long time because they did not sell when I tried ETSY.
What a failure that was.
Make an offer.

Next is just a piece I did on a round wooden plaque I had lying around the house.
I don't really expect this to go, but you never know.
It is on a six inch circular plaque.

Lastly are two paintings on 16 x 20 canvases.
Both are done with acrylic paint.
Not framed, but the sides of the canvas are painted black.
They really do look better than the photos.
I have got to get better at taking pictures.
